SAS Licensing Model

SAS charges on the basis of number or cores.

SAS environment running 1 core in Intel processor and 1 core running in Power processor, would sas charge same? Power processors are considered to be faster than Intel ones, so I would expect higher price if customer uses Power, any ideas?

In my experience, running any software on a server with 1 core would not be viable or indeed recommended. The minimum spec for a SAS application server would be 4 cores. You can't get PCs these days with just one core.

We have run SAS servers with 4 cores and this was entirely adequate for our requirements at the time.

If you are referring to SAS on PCs, then licensing is usually by PC and you can have any compatible processor you like.

If your aim is to keep software and hardware costs down, then SAS is available as a cloud-based service where you could pay just for usage rather than cores. As @Reeza says talk to your SAS account manager to go through the options available.
