Hello,

In a cluster Metadata SAS Grid Environment, generally how many metadata servers are recommended to install 2 or 3.  Where they will be installed on local storage or shared storage ?

Thanks !

Why not try a Google search: "Metadata server cluster" ?

Results:

In brief:

  • A metadata server cluster requires minimum three metadata servers ("nodes").
  • If the cluster has an odd number of nodes, more than half are required to be running for the cluster to operate.
  • If the cluster has an even number of nodes, half are required to be running for the cluster to operate, as long as the master node is included in that half.
  • Although the cluster appears to the SAS user as a single metadata server, each node in the cluster maintains its own configuration files, metadata, logs & journals.
  • Apart from machine name, all nodes in the cluster must essentially be configured identically - operating system, file mounts/mappings, etc..
  • IOM load processing, managed by the master node, is used for the nodes to communicate.
  • Although it is common to see these as separate branches of shared storage, the nodes do not require shared storage.
