This is regarding the concept of Quiet Install for SAS Client Applications. How many of you have tried it before and what is your feedback?
We used it and it works just fine. Installed, EG, AMO, IMS, OCS, SMC and PLM using that for hundereds of users.
Thanks Hitesh & Rain B. That's a good news.
Any learnings/ Known Challenges etc..?
In my case, I wont need to install all the software to everyone. In that case, do i need to create separate response for each cases?
Meaning, certain users use only EG and others use EG and Base SAS. In this case, I believe, we need 2 set of response files.
Am i correct or else we have some other better options to handle this?

SAS 9.2 Silent Install [Success] @ The Decoder Wheel
Thanks,

Thanks Shiva. This is what I really wanted to know.
Same for me.
Quiet install for SAS 9.3 products worked just fine. There might be some confusion as the installer itself disappears but actually from task manager(Windows machine) you can see that one Java process is running actively and also SAS folder will keep growing.
We have just completed a project automating the install of SAS 9.3 client tools for BI server to desktops.
Our experience is that this is not at all straightforward and is best handled by an install automation specialist. Most larger organisations will have such a person.
Some recommendations:
1) Split the SAS pre-requisites into a separate package (eg Microsoft and Java components) as a re-boot is required after this.
2) If SAS is already installed, the install process will attempt to update existing software and ignore adding new components. Hence you need to run the install process twice. This feature does not appear to be well documented, or perhaps I didn't look in the right place. The other option would be to uninstall all existing SAS components before re-installing but sometimes users don't want their existing SAS components removed.
3) It is better to install all needed SAS components on all PCs even if not all are used as this means they can all be included in one install package to make the process easier. There is then no problem swapping between PCs and having all SAS components available.
Hi All,
Thanks for your response to this thread.
Finally i have managed to implement the silent install successfully for my organization.
Only thing that didnt work well with me was automatic logging back after reboot during Pre Reqs install. We have decided to
manually login back and to submit the same silent install command ( SAS doesnt install the component that is already installed.)
Otherwise all went well. Thanks again.
