SAS is installed on a new server and I am facing some issues. I have some other questions about keyboard shortcut for SAS on SAS server but I will ask about them soon.
Currently, the issue is that when I double click a SAS programme file, it opens in SAS Universal Viewer instead of opening in SAS 9.4. I need to right click the file, then need to click 'show more options', then need to click 'open with SAS 9.4' and then file opens in SAS for each file each time.
I have tried to change the default programme by going in properties but I am not able to find out how to locate the SAS file (SAS programme) on the server so that the default option can be changed.
Thanks in advance.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,

You can drag the .sas file into the program editor or enhanced editor in the SAS 9.4 window.
But typically, I do not do this, I use the SAS 9.4 interface to open files. File->Open
@PaigeMiller , Thanks for the response.
Somehow that is not working. I tried it. I thought it will work but it is not working. We are accessing files on OneDrive and maybe there is issue with that. I do not understand much technical details in it but it is OneDrive which we are using for it.
Also, I am in search of a solution by following which the files will open in SAS 9.4 if I will double click it. I think there must be some solution in this direction.
Many thanks once again for your response.

If you select Open with, Choose another app... you will get a list of alternatives, but there should be a tick box or a button (depending on your version of Windows) always to use the application you use. If you choose SAS and select the "Always" option it should always open in SAS when you double-click a .sas file.
Yes, I am aware of that, but I am not able to see the option of SAS in the alternatives. I want to know how to find it when no such option is seen. It is there somewhere but I want to know the exact filename and path which I should refer to. Thanks.

I'm not absolutely sure but I think it is probably sashome\SASFoundation\9.4\core\sasexe\sasoact.exe. It's worth a try, you can always change it again if it doesn't work!
@Nigel_Pain , many thanks for the suggestion and as a result I will keep going in this direction. Somehow the files mentioned by you does not work. I mean when I gave that as an application to open the file, it got opened but the contents are missing. I tried one more option which is in the same folder, but that is also not working. But I am sure I will find out the answer soon. Many thanks for giving direction.

@DrAbhijeetSafai - This is a common issue with many SAS-type files. I suggest you try the instructions in this link: https://sas.service-now.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0036488
@SASKiwi Many thanks!
What I require is very simple. When I double click the file, it should directly open in SAS. But somehow it is taking long long time to understand this new environment and still the problem is not solved. I will go through the link you have shared in detail shortly and will share the outcome here. I will close this topic once the solution is found but till now no solution has been found. I will share the requirement once again - When I am double clicking the file of SAS, I want it to open directly into SAS and not SAS universal viewer. I mean I want SAS 9.4 as the default programme to open it and not SAS Universal Viewer.
Many thanks once again.

Dear All.
I am replying to the main question again, to bring it to notice of experts here. I had thought that I will be able to find out the solution, but I am not able to find out even now. It is taking lot of time because opening a programme by double clicking is not possible. I request experts to kindly help if possible. It will save lot of time.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,

If you haven't been able to solve this in a reasonable amount of time I would suggest contacting SAS Tech Support as it seems that something in your install may be the issue.
You haven't mentioned the operating system or versions. I can say, from sorry experience, that attempting to use the Windows file association tools doesn't work as expected AND can render the registry in enough of a mess that SAS might require reinstalling. If someone attempted to use the Windows association tools and not the SAS Deployment Manager or which ever tool may replace it, then problems occur. Below is an example of using an older version of the Deployment manager to "Manage SAS File Types" which is where the association defaults would be set.
SAS Tech support would be able to help with your versions of software.
@DrAbhijeetSafai - Did you try the suggestions in the link I provided? These are the common solutions provided by SAS Tech Support.
Hi Dr. Abhijeet,
To set SAS 9.4 as the default, try this:
Right-click on a .sas
file → Open with → Choose another app → Select SAS 9.4 → Check the box "Always use this app to open .sas files" → Click OK.
If SAS 9.4 doesn’t show up, click "Browse" and manually select the SAS executable (usually in C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\sas.exe
).
