Hi everyone,

I'm trying to configure specific permissions for a custom group I've created called "Report Distributors", but I'm running into some limitations.

Goal:
Users in this group should be able to:

  • Edit and save dashboards in their personal folders (My Folder)
    But not be able to:

  • Edit or overwrite the original dashboards located elsewhere.

The issue:
So far, it seems difficult to configure permissions to meet both criteria. The current options appear to be either:

  1. Allow users to edit and save both the original dashboard and in their own folders, or

  2. Completely disable editing rights altogether.

In Environment Manager, I’ve tried assigning edit/save rights only to the personal folders, but this doesn't seem to have the desired effect — users either get too many or too few permissions.

Has anyone successfully set up a similar permission structure? I'd appreciate any suggestions or workarounds!

Thanks in advance!

Yes this is correct. The ability to edit or view a report is controlled by the functional URI "/SASVisualAnalytics_capabilities/edit". This is independent of the location of the report.

Individual users have the permission to read/write to their "My Folder" no special settings are needed.

For the folder where the production reports are, the users need the Read and the Read (convey) permission. this allows them to open a report, but not save it to this folder.

Whether a user can actually edit a report, independent of its location,  this is controlled by the functional URI "/SASVisualAnalytics_capabilities/edit". By default all users are allowed to create/edit reports. See Manage Access to Features: URI Reference for more details;

Thank you for your reply! Just to provide some context, in our environment by only SAS administrators are by default allowed to edit a report. If I understand you correctly, what you are saying is that the edit permission is either 'on' or 'off' for an individual user and can not be set on report level right? This matches with my own observation.

Thanks Bruno, I will close the topic for now. Hopefully in the future we can have edit permission on report level
