Hello,

I just changed my PC, and as a result, SAS and SAS EG were reinstalled on the new PC. However, I'm having a problem: when I launch a .sas file, the SAS environment opens fine, but the .sas file doesn't appear in the SAS editor. I tried associating the .sas file with sas.exe by right-clicking and selecting "open with," but the result remains unchanged. Do you have any ideas for a solution?
Thanks.

Hello @jlf,

That problem and possible solutions are described in this Knowledge Base article: Troubleshooting issues related to SAS® file-type association in a Windows operating environment.

Hello,
We've tried both technical solutions suggested in the web link, including the registry utility. The association problem still hasn't been resolved.

Sorry to hear that. In this case I have three suggestions:

  1. If your SAS software is a bit old (e.g., version 9.3), the advice given in Re: What to set as default app for handling sas program files (.sas) in Windows and the SAS GF 2013 paper linked there might help. A similar discussion (linking to the same paper), but also describing other solutions, can be found in the thread Fixing .SAS file associations with SAS 9.4.
  2. Personally, I wouldn't want to start a full SAS session (but the SAS Universal Viewer) when I double-click a .sas file: please see my reply Re: What to set as default app for handling sas program files (.sas) in Windows for more details and how I open SAS programs in the Enhanced Editor.
  3. If neither of the above solves your problem, I suggest that you contact SAS Technical Support.

Good luck!
