If the determinant, det T, of the transformation matrix T is positive, the basis f, r, u of R³ has the same orientation as the canonical basis e 1 = (1, 0, 0)', e 2 = (0, 1, 0)', e 3 = (0, 0, 1)' (defining the world coordinate system). If det T < 0, the two orientations are different. (Remember that R³ has only two orientations.)
