Thanks Reeza, I saw the SAS doc on the USER library. This issue is either a Studio bug, or the infrastructure on our side. The behavior only occurs in Studio, and so far it appears random. When I am explicitly using the WORK library, and our USER option is 'USER=', with no value supplied, I do not expect to see any output referencing the USER library. According to the doc, our USER option defaults to WORK since we do not supply an alternative location. So why then would SAS Studio generate a table that does not show up when the job ends, and shows only a reference to the USER location?The table is actually in the WORK library, but I have to open that library and double-click the table to view it. My goal is to figure out why that is happening at all. What is making Studio think that any output table should go to USER? P.S. I thought this might be related to the SASCATCA library, but I can see that is unlikely.

SAS 9.4, M5. Yes, it is a Grid implementation. If it is tied to our configuration, I can get SAS tech support involved. I just want to understand. It started when I noticed that some of the WORK output tables I generate are labeled as USER.TABLE instead of WORK.TABLE, and our USER system option is currently defaulting to WORK (USER=). I thought perhaps this SASCATCA was related to the issue.

This SAS library showed up in my session, and is pointing to my physical WORK library location? What is this library, and why is it showing up? SASCATCA.

Thanks, I was trying to write it from a Linux server SAS dataset to a Windows share. I can use the csv DBMS, but then I still have to move the file to the Win platform. Maybe I can shell out of SAS and run an FTP or something.

Can the EG Export to Excel be put in a batch job? I don't see any code generated, so I'm assuming it can't.

Yes, my comments regarding memsize=0 were motivated by SAS Tech Support. Since each site is different, who can say what a tech support person might tell one person over another. And I don't understand why the default sasv9.cfg file has memsize=64M shipped from SAS if they recommend 0??? I also assumed that we were experiencing problems that may actually have been non-existent according to Chucks comments on memory usage for individual server connections. I would have to investigate that again. I wonder if the advice from SAS Tech support were based on real world experience over a broader range of usage - in other words, maybe Chuck's shop has better trained programmers/analysts who don't attempt to summarize 40 million rows by the key field! 🙂 Kenny Message was edited by: Kenny Message was edited by: Kenny

It seems to me that setting the memsize to zero would not be a good thing in a multi-user environment. And BTW, the default memsize is not 0 - at least not with our install. I was told by SAS tech support to increment memsize as needed until you find a good balance. Starting out at 0 could give multiple users access to ALL available memory, causing a shortage for subsequent users. Perhaps I am wrong, but you might want to invetigate.

We had similar problems. It was due to disk sharing through SAN. We noticed very poor performance and it was traced to some database server doing a backup - completely unrelated to our SAS application and disk setup - or so we thought! We switched to dedicated clarion disk and we saw immediate improvement in I/O, very massive improvement! To top it off, we had our admin set up a RAM disk (we have 64GB of RAM on an 8 way Linux box.) we placed our most used SAS tables on the RAM disk and performance was nothing short of miraculous. It's all about proper I/O setup as Chuck has laid out in such great detail!

I guess I need to report this as a bug. I'm assisting end users who are not code savvy, so I want to limit the use of code as much as possible.

I am applying the MONYY7. format to a date field in the Summary Statistics dialog. However, it always appears in the output as MONYY5.?? It works fine in One Way Frequencies, and in other dialogs. The code preview clearly shows the line FORMAT MYDATE MONYY7. Any help is appreciated.

That's not terrible news - at least I know I'm not a complete idiot! I'll have to suggest this as a new feature (unless it's already in 4.0?) It just does not look right of you have a report left justified, and the image is skewed to the right. Perhaps for now I'll just go back to centering my reports.

I'm modifying all sorts of style attributes in the style manager/editor with great results in EG 3. However, there seems to be no way to move the banner image to the left (it defaults to center.) any help is appreciated.
