I create PDF output with Proc Shewhart using ODS, and I can't get rid of the procedure titles in the PDF file. ODS NOPROCTITLE doesn't work, and no matter of what combination of PROCTITLE and PROCLABLE I use the annoying procedure titles and headers are there. Help!!

Thank you all for the suggestions. Cynthia's idea of repeating the proc tabulate statement after reseting the title is very easy and worked fine. This way I can use the formating of the original title statement.

I use proc tabulate with multiple table statements, and each table statement repeats the title. Is there any way to suppress the 2nd and subsequent titles? My code looks like this: title .....; proc tabulate; class...; var ...; table ,,,,/condense; table .../ condense; table .../ condense; run; I end up with 3 titles while only need it once. Thanks.

I'm very glad that I posted my initial question, I learned a lot! I used to do just randomisation to assign test groups (for DOE) but that not always resulted in groups with similar averages or variance for specific variables. PG's method works very well, I tested it on various datasets with real-time process data. Thanks to all of you! Fethon

PG, Rick, Steve, Thank you all for your valuable inputs, when I get back to work tomorrow (I'm on Australia time zone!) I'll try the PGperm solution, I think it'll give me what I want. I'm designing an experiment so I want to have all 8 treatment groups starting with similar average Y (which is a variable representing process stability). Random allocation of groups did not give very similar group averages for Y, maybe my assumption of normally distributed Y was wrong. Regards, Fethon Naoum

I have a data set with about 2000 observations to be split into 8 groups that would have similar (not identical) average Y. The variable Y is normally distributed. I didn't explain clearly my initial question, I think Rick took it as having Y be similar within the groups, whilst I want the group average Ys to be similar. The similarity doesn't need to be too tight, if that helps. Thanks, Fethon

How can I create subgroups in a large dataset so that all subgroups are approximately equal as measured by a specific variable? E.g to create X number of subgroups that have the same average for the variable Y. Would there be a clustering procedure to do that? Thanks

That's excellent!, it worked. It made my job much easier because I analyse large datasets in JMP and now I can locate a specific variable name very easily. Thanks.

Tom, Yes, exactly. I want to have the dataset with the variables ordered alphabetically by their name.

Is there a way in SAS 9.3 to sort datasets alphabetically by variable names? I.e. each observation of the dataset to have the variables sorted alphabetically. Thanks.

Ksharp, Thanks for that, it gave me clues on how to do it. If there is no automatic way of displaying headers by group then I can format the line statement in compute section and achieve the same result. Fethon
