Hello fellow VA users, I have finally gotten my SAS VA (7.4 if it matters) to work with AutoLoading of data sets. I have a specific question on order of operation after a reboot of the server. (for any reason My SAS VA system might restart) What is the order that the data files reload assuming AutoLoad works as expected? Let’s limit it to all sets are in the same LASR, and all in the AutoLoad folder not the append folder. If helpful I can provide some example data set names and date/time stamps. I just am not sure if its that complicated or if it's controllable at all to warrant the time. TIA. -KJ PS Did you know in the VAAG.pdf AutoLoad is referanced 339 times lol (at least on my version) I gave up after about 50 find next.

Hello all, I am searching the user guide and admin guide and the communities for the proper way to shutdown my (SAS VA 7.4) server when I need to do maintenance etc. I have noticed that I have this issue as described in this thread: https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Visual-Analytics/LASR-Analytic-Server-not-starting/td-p/247934/page/2 However am not sure after reading it how to prevent it in the first place. I see the .pid files that they described needing to remove to get the start to work but what steps do I do to never fall in to this trap? Thanks for your time. Have a great weekend. -KJ

SASKiwi, I am IT support in a Higher Education setting, I just found a high detail table 'Student_test_comp' that I had not reviewed to date. It has to do with Test scores for students, for four years of data it has 23.8Million rows. Wow, I had no idea that it was growing that fast. ...5X my base data set. I have been working on making surrogate keys for the tables to make a star schema, my source data warehouse uses natural keys. SASKiwi, Thanks for the info.

Hi SASKiwi, 4.5mil, growing at 1.1mill a year at this time but we are on a single server not a distrubuted ... Thanks for the pointers, I will look into the data library as you referance. I was able to do some apending Friday afternoon late, it does seem farly fast. The Data load however seems quite slow by comparison. Maybe the libary is the fix I need. 😎 Thank you again for your post.

Hello All, I am still very new to SAS VA, but am working with the append feature and see in the code tab that the working command is PROC IMSTAT. I did some research on the command and do not see a no dups feature. I when working and learning how the process works accidently ran the append feature on the same file set with what I thought was a new weeks’ worth of data twice. Questions: 1 Is there a way to stop that from happening in the first place? (Check box, custom code option, etc.) 2 If not is there an easy fix without reloading the base file and all its appended sub sets? Sorry if this is an old solved question, I did not see an answer when searching for "PROC IMSTAT and duplicates" -KJ PS I did see a delete reference in a communities post however I am hoping for a clean no dups option on the load side.

SuryaKiran, No; I already do that in some cases. (meaning I do not use it offten but do use that feature with network file shares) No I literally have a list of 2700 Network ids with access to a server I suport and I need to cross check if the users are still active AD users with rights or not. So I have read my data with NID and group relationships parsed it as I need it, and I want to read from an Active Directory server like it was a libname sucking in all the info about the given 2700 users with a left join (the bonus info would to trap any nid not in the AD set and write indicator field). My AD servers could have a over million of NID records so I really don't want a data dump of all of them if I do not have too... but if i do, such is life. 😎 -Kj

Is it possible to query my local Active Directory with SAS returning data set? In this case I have a set of 2700 network Id (NID), that might be former/current/locked down status, but I want to connect to my AD and return any information like user name, dept, status, last login date. I guess what I am asking is can I create a libname command or something similar given I have access to AD? TIA. -KJ PS I know there are some PowerShell tools out there but I am already preprocessing my data to get the NID, and some security rights fields for the first phase of this project I thought I would check to see if I could get it all done in SAS and not have to use other tools.

Full disclosure, I am not 100% sure what "role playing dimension" is in this case related to my data. I am very new to VA, and somewhat new to Data warehouse world, I am a long time ERP transactional guy. My data is higher ED related, snapshot data regarding Admissions, I am working with term, snapdate, personID, and sometimes admit term all as keys in separate fields, then 70 or so facts that change from week to week as they (the applicants) process through the admissions process. We are using this data to help predict FTE year over year. Sometimes the data per table might have more keys or less. All fact tables with personID will always have the snapdate for time comparison. We want to be able to look at where all our applicants’ counts on any given date relative to this coming fall term to last years and the year before etc. It’s to help admissions, budgeting, recruiting management, and administration

Alexal, So the Key field in the area described has no relationship here? and no other option save making a surrogate or composite key external to SAS VA? If true; is there any chance you know where this is documented so I can show my supervisor? PS thanks for your time.

Hello all, I have some data in a fact tables, the keys of the data is stored in our Data Warehouse typically in three or more separate fields, I am trying to bring it in to SAS VA, (done) then link it up to some crosswalk descriptive tables. So I have been reading and trying to use this LASR StarSchema process. I have looked it up and followed the example but it seems this StarSchema will let me link more than one pair of tables at one time, but not more than one key per "table pair". Thus I went and looked for defining keys in SAS VA. I can see how to build indexes on more than one field in SAS Management Console, Data library manager, on a local library, for a single table properties, but the key tab I cannot get. (just escapes me, nothing active to click on/ or field to type in after selecting table) (but I am not sure the star process would use this anyway) Anyhow can this direction work or do I have to make a concatenated* key before importing? or are their other ways to get at what I want that I have yet to see? I am willing to read, just not sure what to read next. lol TIA -KJ *or surrogate key
