I tried the code below, but the macro put statement doesn't produce the desired result 2014/10/08 in the macro variable m. 1. How to read the space delimited strings as one variable in data step? Ideally I wish to create the table as below with one variable instead of many. Since I've spaces between the strings I couldn't succeed with the data step. Once I created a dataset then I can easily remove the middle characters (m r as per inputs below) via scan & compress function to proceed further for my analysis. data A; Input name$ ; Datalines; Ra m ku Ch r is ; run; 2. My external file has a header like c:name c:zip c:address. Once I import this .csv via proc import, sas dataset variables turn out to be c_name c_zip c_address. i.e. ':' are converted into '_'. How to get rid of this behavior? I ran all my SAS code in EG 5.1. Many thanks in advance for your inputs.

what do you mean by fancy numbers? what is your desired output? Can we imagine that your variable 'XYZ' is numeric?

why we've used '||' operator whilst calculating the variable completed? "Completed="||strip(COMPLETED)||" Dropped="||strip(DROPPED) as NOTE Also you've used two '||' for the first strip function and one || for the second strip function. Why so?

RAND function suppose to generate a random number from a distribution where as it producing all the records from the table (have) when I ran your code. Please advise. May I request you to explain the below line from your code? %do %until (%scan(&tbl, &i)=); If I'm not wrong, &tbl will resolves to 'month' when i=1. So your code will convert to %do %until (%scan(month1, 1)=); We don't have any variable called 'month1' in both the tables instead it's a table.
