after merging, with proc sql, different selection generate different numbers of obs i want to compare the difference of these two datasets, i would prefer to have a new dataset, such as out= proc compare base=emp95_byidnum compare=emp96_byidnum out=result outnoequal outbase outcomp outdif noprint; id idnum; run; it seems that noprint option does not work any advice, i do not want to compare the difference of these variables, but really want to see different obs whether they have any differences in dates (two variables, dayin and dayout) only thanks

I have multiple datasets to merge but first I need to sort by id is there an efficient way to use macro to do this? And to keep index so that I can see which record from which previous dataset? Thanks.

sorry, my previous message was not clear i did the same way as you said, with a new variable but the new varabile has all missing values the date format is yyyymmdd, like 20160705, i do not know how to convert

the original dataset has date variables are listed as 20051001, 20160705 would you please recommend how to convert them to sas date FORMAT date date9.; date= input(date, yymmdd10.);

I need to merge 7 datasets, monday, tuesday, wed, thur, friday, sat, and sun. Use data set step is easy but I want to create a variable that I can identify whether those are from the dataset monday, or from sat, or from other dataset/ therefore, I am thinking to use "coalesce" but I usually only merge two datasets, and never tried to merge seven together once. the requriment is, 1) merge 7 at one time 2) create an index to identify where it is from, so in case there are ids same from monday and tue, I can still identify by looking at the index id. any advice? Thanks

Thanks I tried yours. it does not change, still it cant not read the rest part 5 records were read from the infile ' c:\abc.DAT'. The minimum record length was 20000. The maximum record length was 20000. NOTE: The data set WORK.CONTEST has 5 observations and 213 variables.
