Hi All, Many thanks for your replies. @PGStats and @novinosrin, your codes work perfectly, however I have both good cases and bad cases combined together. So, how can I extract only bad cases (create var case as @PGStats did) like those I have mentioned in my message? I have two duplicates by var4/var5. So, I need to go to the first duplicate and select the row where the biggest value of var4 corresponds to the biggest value of var3 (i.e. 26098 is assigned to 33746), so I take the first row and drop the second row. Then, I go to the second duplicate and select the row where the SECOND biggest value of var4 corresponds to the SECOND biggest value of var3 (i.e. 25206 is assigned to 32298). Then, if needed, I go to the third duplicate case and select the row where the THIRD biggest value of var4 corresponds to the THIRD biggest value of var3. And so on. The same principle is applied to the second and third cases mentioned above. I really hope my explanation is clear. Your help would be very highly appreciated. I look forward to getting your reply. Yes, that is the issue and that is why I posted my question here 🙂 So first, I need to select a 'center'. The 'center' should be either the specified date or the closest day in "date1" column to the specified date. Next, relative to this 'center', I need to select two closest days before and two closest days after the 'center'. Please, @Reeza, I do rely on your help 🙂

Thanks a lot for your reply, @Reeza! In my data, I definitely have two days before and two days after the specified date. The case that you mentioned is very unlikely to exist in my data, however even if it exists, then there should be NO output at all. So, I need to select two closest days before the specified date and two closest days after the specified date and the specified date itself. If very awkward cases exist (as in your example), SAS should just ignore such cases.

Many thanks for your code. However, when you said "within" I meant within the existing days in column "date1". Hence, in my post I mention that I need to select two closest days to the specified date. Any ideas how to select two closest days to the specified date?

Hi Xia, Your code works fine, however it does not take into account the fact that in dataset2 I may have the Var value on 31Dec or 30Apr. So it does not matter on which month and year t I have the Var value available (so it may be available in June, Nov or March), this Var value should be merged with July of next year t+1 in dataset1 and repeated throughout the whole year until next June of year t+2.
