computation of industry share of each company

dear all  I have to compute the share of each company's sales in the total sales of the industry.  I have the data of sales of 39,504 the companies across all the industries.  I have to compute the total sales of the industry by aggregating the sales of all the companies in the industry. then, sales of each company in the industry should be divided by total sales  of the industry.  I have more than hundred different industries in the dataset   It has to be done of each from 2010 to 2018.  the sample data is as follows Company Industry group Net sales__2010 Net sales__2011 …………….. dear Mr. Ksharp thanks for your prompt response.  I applied your SAS code again. but, after running the program, i got only 100 observations with in both the real dataset and new dataset.  Actuallly i had 3423 observations. Dear Mr.  Ksharp thanks for your reply   i could not understand the code, But i run it and it has generated an output with only 100 observations.    i have the following doubts.   My data set has 3423 observations.  1. can you please tell me how to modify the code to apply it on my dataset.  2. moreover, what exactly, we will get in the output. thanks Mr. PaigeMiller for your prompt reply.   if there is no any observation for any the preceding five years data of the variable, i want to take only the available number of years for computation of standard deviation.  I think this is the only alternative which can be implemented easily. of course at the cost of accuracy.  please help me writing the SAS code thanks in advance  ... I have unbalanced panel data. I have to compute standard deviation for a variable for the past five years recursively.   For example, standard deviation of the variable X for the year 2000 is computed based the observations from 1995 to 1999; for the year 2001, from 1996 to 2000 and so on. yes. I tried. but all the observations of each  company are getting the value of '1999' only.  my data starts at the year 1994 and ends at 2018.  Kindly help me in changing the  previously used code to get the desired output.  thanks in advance ... View more
