Hello, I have several SAS scripts that automate exporting data to an excel document via the ods excel file statement. When I do this, the excel document opens automatically once completed. Is there an option or a way to modify the statement so the excel document doesn't open automatically? Thanks!

Thanks @LinusH I will respectfully disagree, at least in my environment. EG has been a great tool in automating reporting processes with the combination of SQL and SAS logic. If you build datasets with common variables in mind it is actually quite easy to maintain. The trick is learning how to efficiently code for some of these intricacies that I run into. These particular EG projects take a raw data file each day and process it into a very detailed report within a matter of minutes. It will also provide the data I need to graph, forcast, and analyze that data on the fly. I think a lot of potential is missed if it is only thought of as an adhoc tool.

The code that doesn't get run is the code immediately after that comment. It creates dummy records in the dataset if there are no records present in the dataset it is calling. This has always worked fine previous to this issue. I will research how this sort table is involved. SAS has to be doing something behind the scenes that is not showing up in the log.

Hello, I am having a lot of trouble this morning with this particular error. ERROR: File WORK.SORTTEMPTABLESORTED.DATA does not exist. It is happening in a program inside my EG process flow that comes before an export task where I added custom code yesterday. The custom code was to create a "custom" version of the work.sorttemptablesorted data that was created so I could include a PROC SQL case statement on it. Everything ran fine and exported what I wanted it to. However, now I am receiving this error on the program that comes before it. I have several export scripts that do this same thing. I don't know if I somehow deleted this but I don't see how I could of. Since the only change I made was adding custom code to the export event it must have something to do with that. However, everything looks fine to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to do what I needed by using 3 seperate insert statements to get my 3 observations. It seems like there would be a more efficient way. If you have any suggestions @RW9 let me know. At least this is working. I really appreciate your help!

@RW9 ok, I think I am with you. I believe I have that working, however, I am wondering if I am able to do select statements with unions in order to get 3 seperate records inserted into the new dataset if there are no records in the original? Otherwise, is there a way to modify the set statement example you gave me?

@RW9 Thanks for the help. I am trying to get this to work because it is the answer in this thread that I feel more comfortable with what is going on. However, I have a couple of questions. First, I can't figure out which piece of this code will populate my new dataset with data from the orignal dataset if there are observations in it. Also, I can't determine what the "results" set is supposed to represent your example. Here is the flow. Original Dataset -> Either has observations or doesn't -> If it has observations, I am summing totals from the observations and inserting them into a new dataset. -> If it doesn't have observations, I want to insert the records for 0 amounts into the summary dataset. I hope that makes sense. I feel like this is close to what I need but I am missing something.

Yes, it would be part of the original dataset if an observation existed.

I am trying to figure out a way to create a new SAS dataset with an if/then statement or case statement in proc sql. What I am looking at is a dataset that doesn't have any observations in it at all. I have some code that will give me a zero in a temp dataset if no observations are found in the original set. What I need to be able to do is either: 1. Create a dataset with 3 observations where the first variable is populated with something I hard code and the rest of the variables 0's if the main dataset has no observations or the temp dataset is showing 0 indicating there were no observations. 2. If there are observations in the main dataset, then I want to create the new dataset based off of those observations. I have researched but haven't really found a way yet. At least not one that is recognizable. I found this paper but I am not sure if it would help me here. http://www.lexjansen.com/phuse/2014/cc/CC06.pdf Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris. I was afraid of that. I was actually just reading a couple of your posts trying to figure this out, specifically this one. http://blogs.sas.com/content/sasdummy/2012/04/17/doing-more-with-sas-enterprise-guide-automation/#comment-159236 After digging around in the comments of another post, I found this article. http://support.sas.com/kb/30/917.html I tried creating this credentials file for EG 6.1, saved a copy in all of the potential locations based off of the older versions in the article but I still have no luck. If I go into the project and make sure it is set up on a local server where the credentials are not required, it works. However, it only works IF I don't have another EG project where I have logged into the server. It seems EG saves the credentials of the last project that was opened. This is all very puzzling. Is there another way to work around the setting on the server that will not allow me to save the credentials locally? I really need to be able to get past this for scheduling to work properly.

Thanks @SASKiwi. I tried what you suggested with no luck. However, I see what is going on. I noticed that when I set up the profile and choose "save login info" the box will not remained checked after connecting to the server. I tried to manually change the xml file to "true" for that flag as well. When I log into the server that flag is changed back to false. Could there be some sort of policy on the server that will not allow those credentials to be saved? If not, I may be out of luck unless you have other suggestions. Bottom line is that this is going to prevent me from scheduling enterprise guide projects to run with task manager because it will prompt for the connection every time.

Hello, I am currently using EG 6.1. I have saved my credentials to our server multiple times on the connection profile. However, each time I open an EG project, it prompts me for the credentials. Besides the fact that it is annoying to enter them ever time, I have a task scheduled to run a project during the evening and it fails because it is being prompted for the server credentials. The project itself doesn't even need the server as it runs locally. What I am finding is that it is all or nothing with EG... if I have a connection set up, it is not at the project level but for all of EG. I am hoping someone can tell me if there is a better way or if I am doing something wrong with the setup under options -> Administration -> Connections. I save all of the server info and credentials but it doesn't seem to matter. I also have my credentials persistence set to "Persist for Users" in the security menu. Thanks!

Thanks @TomKari, good questions. These are a chain of tasks and code routines within the process flow. My knowledge is the primary reason these should be skipped but it could also be based on an empty data set that the first query task in the chain is looking at. I just didn't want to add extra code to determine the data set was empty. I was looking at doing a condition on that task but just didn't want to do all that if I didn't have to.
