Dear Super User, Thank you! However, it did not work. I want to save id and last clinicvisitdate (a date var). So I need both the ID and the last clinicvisitdate for 60 patients. SO I want an output like this: id lastclinicvisitdate 1 12/14/15 2 2/9/18 etc.

Hi. I need help. I read everything I could, even prior SAS community sites and Cody's books. I'm stuck. please help me. I have 60 patients. Together they have 1624 visits. Each has a different number of visits. Here are my variables: 　 Alphabetic List of Variables and Attributes # Variable Type Len Format age_q_visit (N-Number) id (N) q_oxyconcent (N) q_oxytime (N) q_post_gluc (N) q_pre_gluc (N) q_visitdate Date MMDDYY8. visitno (N) they are in order by date This is what I want, but won't work: MY GOAL - TO ISOLATE THE LAST VISIT NUMBER AND AGE WHILE KEEPING q_visitdate and ID proc sort data=have; by id visitno; run; data hope; set have; if last.visitno; retain id q_visitnum; run; ANY IDEAS? Hello I hope you are all well. I have IDs, such AB124008 in which AB = site of enrollment, 12, represents MD id, and 40008 represents the actual patient id in the study. I looked through all of Cody's books, or most, and know that I probably am missing something. They are all character / text variables. How do I separate all the IDs into: 1) site of enrollment - want it to be a text var 2) physician code - want to it to be a number 3) actual id - want to be a number Thanks! I have many enrolled patients in the study. I know there has to be an array to separate them.

Michael, I can not find your email to apologize. I really did not know the rules for accepting a solution. Thank you for informing me. Should there be as SAS COMMUNITY RULE documents? I am not greedy and I thought I gave credit to you. I am sorry. I hope the SAS community accepts our mistakes are we not SAS experts per se, and don't know the rules. I thought everyone was suppose to be kind and open instead of critical. But I have learned. Thank you again for the solution.

I posted the wrong data but the right out put. If you notice id=55, the 1st visitnumber should be that where there is 4/20/10 and 4/20/10. And it is not. I copied it on a word document this time. Feel free to test my program and see what you get. I can't get the 1st visit to be the 1st observation for id 55, which should be 4/20/10 and 4/20/10. That person had the 1st initial consult on 4/20/10 and went to the treatment to treat the heart rate the same day. I APOLOGIZE greatly if I got the data mixed up. But this is the correct data here. It is in excel. I hope it attaches. I don't know how to make these things attach. I tried everything!
