Thanks for your reply. Based on the data set i think instead of using proc sql, grouping, I use this code. I want to create a variable by some condition. first group observations with the same var1. then if var2 is 1 the 'want var' is the same as var 3. if var 2 is 0 'want var' is the average of var 3. for obs 1-3: obs var1 var2 var 3 want 1 1 0 20 15 ((20+10)/2) 2 1 0 10 15 3 1 1 20 20

I really did not catch your point. I meant i want exactly subtract value of B from Value of A. However that code subtract them in order, second value minus first one.

Thanks a lot. This code works. however, It needs some changes. A and B are not in order.. some times it is B and A. but always should :value of B - Value of A.

Hi all, I am trying to do loop over the same observations in a big dataset. I have used existing codes in the communities , however, they did not work. here is a part of dataset: Id year1 year2 year3 1 20 . . 1 . 30 . 1 . . 15 2 20 . . 2 20 2 20 3 . . I want to apply some conditions , for example: data want; do until (last.Id); set have ; by id; if year1=year2=year3 then delete;end; run; what is the problem with this code? your help will be appreciated

Hi every one, I have tried many ways to extrat the year from the date variable of my data set.however. non of them works(substr statement etc) i even change the format of variable. note: the format of the varibale in the manual book is shown : Text (7) (YYYY-MM) variable what i want data_of_brith year 01APR24:00:00:00 24 01AUG25:00:00:00 25 01DEC32:00:00:00 32 ... my code: data want; set have; year = input(substr(data_of_brith, 6), 2.); run; the result are: 82, 61, 46 instead of 24, 25, 32 that i was expecting!!!!! your hepl will be really appreciated
