I don't use EG much so I won't comment on editor differences between EG and DMS. What I would like to say is that where I work, we continue to use full SAS on our desktops even though we primarily use a Windows SAS server. Why is this? One of the important reasons is that there is NO DR (Disaster Recovery) plan for our SAS server. If for any reason it is not available we retain the capability of running our business-critical processes from our desktops (after our data is restored on a file server) so at least we have some minimal DR/backup capability. All our programs are written with this flexibility in mind. I wonder how many SAS sites are in the same boat? If you have a very large dataset and do not want to sort it there are at least two good choices: 1) Hash join table B to table A in a DATA step, as mentioned by Peter. 2) Create a SAS format from the username in table B using PROC FORMAT, then use the PUT function in a DATA step to do the lookup. Both of these techniques provide similar (very quick) performance as the lookups are done in memory. I agree it would be easier to write to the SAS server location directly from the PC. If the server were running Windows this would be dead easy as the file location would become: \\servername\apps\jobs\test.sas It looks like the server is running Unix judging by the directory name so unless the server has NFS (Network File System) enabled, I suspect for someone new to SAS a single remote submit uploading the data and writing it is going to be the simplest approach. Your program is running only the FILE statement on the server hence the error. An RSUBMIT must be done on a complete SAS step in exactly the same way as you run it on your PC. A Windows server (I guess this is what you want) directory can be referenced like so: \\serveraddress\dir\subdir1\subdir2 I find the best way to get a server directory is to map to the server in Windows Explorer, locate the directory I want to reference, then copy the full path from the Explorer address line and paste it into the SAS LIBNAME. I agree with Scott. The log indicates you are running a query in a DB2 AIX database but your log does not show how you are connecting to that database. The only way of doing concurrent sorting (or any process for that matter) that I am aware of is by doing it in separate SAS sessions. If you have SAS/CONNECT then you can create several asynchronous SAS sessions each doing their own processing in parallel/concurrently then get the parent SAS session to wait until all your child sessions have finished processing. This is probably only worth doing on a server with the I/O capacity to cope. On a desktop machine the first sort would tend to dominate the disk drive and all of the other concurrent sorts would be very slow. ... View more

This is the typical error you get when the Windows security on the folder in question is not set up so you have the right access to it. Check Properties of the folder in Windows Explorer and then look at the Security tab. You don't mention if this is a server or a local folder or not.
