One way to see what is going on is to execute the code with OPTIONS MPRINT SYMBOLGEN; in the code. The log will then show what the macro variables are being evaluated to (SYMBOLGEN) and then what entire lines of generated code looks like (MPRINT). The log will also display the name of the macro executing which is helpful if you have multiple macros in your program. Turn the options off with OPTIONS NOMPRINT NOSYMBOLGEN;

One approach would be to an and %INCLUDE statement to the AUTOEXEC.SAS file pointing to a common SAS program assigning LIBNAMES. Then each time their SAS session starts it would have the libraries available and the code would reflect any changes you made. If they don't have an AUTOEXEC.SAS file then you would modify the SAS configuration file, look for something like SASV9.CFG and add a line like: -autoexec='D:\data\autoexec.sas' to point to a common autoexec with the code.

If your "Month" variables were kept as SAS date variable the grouping could be done with formats; proc summary data=<your data set>; class <your year/month variable>; var v1 v2; format <your year/month variable> YYQ6.; output out= newdata (drop= _type_ _freq_) sum= ; run;

Do you mean veiw the SAS dataset before export? There are a variety of ways depending on your installation. If you can find the library in the SAS Explorer clicking on the icon of the desired set should open it. Or from a SAS command line type VT libname.datasetname (VT short for Viewtable). If you want to sort or edit values in the set then add the option OPENMODE=EDIT after the VT command. If you have the SAS AF module license FSVIEW is another tool to look at datasets.

If you get involved in the next project earlier investigate use of PROC SURVEYSELECT. This will, if used correctly, provide the probablity of selection and weight values for many types of samples so they are available at the analysis stage.

If you have a font with the desired characters you can specify the font for sections of text just as you are doing with the justification. Look in the on-line help for "enhancing titles" for an example.

You may be able to parse what you are looking for from the SAS automatic variable _infile_ which represents the entire current input "line" read from your source file.

Have you tried sorting the data by AlertLevel? It may be that the color assignment is being done by the order the group variable appears in the data.

If you want to change the appearance of all titles and footers in a consistent manner the optimal way would be to use PROC TEMPLATE and create a new custom style based on an existing SAS supplied one. If you need to just modify one (or some specific) title / footer then look in the online help for "enhancing titles" under the "Title Statement" entry in the index for examples of font changes like color and size and such.

I think at this point that MSPAK needs to provide an example of 4 or 5 cities, firms and what the output should look like and definition of "top city".
