This will be my 15th SGF/SUGI. My first one was New York 1993. I left a gap between 99 and 07 but attended ever since.   I recall two memorable events: 1) SUGI 18, 1993, New York. the NESUG party. It was across the SUGI hotel in a hotel that had a flooding in the original hall. So the hotel offered alternative location and free drinks to make amends. This helped turning it into quite a wild happening that I understand to be the precursor to the SGF kickback party.   2) Same SUGI 18. I was still a SAS employee. There was a request for SAS/AF games to be put on display in a corner of the demo hall. I sent in a slot machine simulator I built to get acquainted with the new HP Apollo workstation. Arriving in the New York Hilton I was asked to have a chat with Dr. Goodnight. In that conversation he announced that he would demo that application in the opening session. And yes, I am still proud today. Next year in Dallas he even repeated that demo. And it ended up in SAS/Assist.   Don't jump to the conclusion that the post-1993 conferences were uneventful. The opposite is the case, although I think the modern kickback parties are just a weak echo of those untamed dancing events when the band was still made up of SAS people and partners. There is no technical obstacle to do this, provided you separate the two SPDS instances at the filesystem and port number levels. Unlike you suggest there is no parallel between SPDS and SAS and SPDS does not live in a Lev{n} configuration. By default it uses the site subdirectory in SASHome to store your local configuration settings. You can regard it conceptually as a 3rd party DBMS. So you can install and run them separately (we have done that to separate DEV and PROD) and have both servers in the metadata.   If it is a good idea from a resource point of view is another story altogether. SPDS is meant to be a high volume, high throughput performance beast. Having two of those potential monsters on a single server instance sounds a bit counter intuitive and could easily cause all sorts of havoc, so you need to tread lightly. The stored process server logging is controled by the log4sas facility. The file that allows you to control this is most likely logconfig.xml (but could be different, under control of the logconfigloc SAS invocation option).   There is one parameter that may help you achieve what you want. Add this to logconfig.xml file: <param name="ImmediateFlush" value="TRUE"/> Maybe also the SAS option UNBUFLOG will help but I am uncertain how well that plays with log4sas. Seems worth a try. One could happily use EG forever and never write a single line of code. When the project works as desired you can export the code to a .sas file and have it scheduled as if it was coded by a programmer.   If EG does not cut the cheese I would have a look at the SAS education pages and look for the path towards the SAS Programming certification. It might be encoding but it could also be due to the architectural difference between machines. If eg. your dataset was created on AIX or hp-ux and then the .sas7bdat file was moved over to Windows or Linux you will see this. It is due to the different byte order of the processor between the native OS and the current one. Have a look at https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endianness.   My first step would be to investigate the lifespan of the dataset from creation to where it is now.
