SAS programming and ODS graphics go together like peanut butter and jelly, Bert and Ernie, yin and yang....I could go on, but I think you get the picture. You can find the ODS Graphics definition on the SAS 9 ODS Graphics Tip Sheet, but let's just say, it manages procedure output and facilitates creating graphs in SAS programs. ODS graphics is such an essential tool that we've decided to dedicate SAS Bowl XX to the topic.   Game Details and Access The SAS Support Community trivia event, SAS Bowl XX, ODS Graphics is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, at 10 AM ET. Register for the event and receive an invite to a Microsoft Teams meeting and a calendar event. On game day, join the Teams meeting and access the game here.   More on ODS Graphics OK now, we'll bore you with the formal definition: ODS Graphics is an extension of ODS (the Output Delivery System). ODS manages procedure output and displays it in a variety of destinations, such as HTML and RTF. With ODS Graphics, statistical procedures produce integrated output that includes both graphs and tables. Procedures that support ODS Graphics create graphs, some by default and some when you specify procedure options.   We could go on with more words and descriptions, but there is so much great information out there about ODS Graphics, we'll just point you to them and let you browse at your convenience. You’ve streamed it on YouTube, you’ve seen it featured on the Today Show, come across it on LinkedIn, and read about it on blogs.sas.com. I’ve had the pleasure of trying it out for myself. What is ‘it’?   Of course, I’m talking about the SAS Batting Lab. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, it’s hard not to get excited about using a game to teach kids (and everyone, really) about data science. SAS Explore is scheduled for September 27-29, 2022 (the 28th and 29th in EMEA and AP). What is SAS Explore? It's an event for SAS enthusiasts who want to connect with experts, engage with peers and explore technology. With over 100 sessions, 50 breakouts, and free training, we're very excited to host the event. So much so, we're dedicating September's SAS Bowl to it.   Game Details The SAS Support Community trivia event, SAS Bowl XXIII, SAS Explore is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, at 10 AM ET. Register for the event and receive an invite to a Microsoft Teams meeting and a calendar event. On game day, join the Teams meeting and access the game here.   More on SAS Explore Many may ask, "Is SAS Explore a replacement for SAS Global Forum (SGF)?" We don't like the word replacement, but prefer the term transformation. The pandemic forced SAS to re-evaluate how we get together and share all-things SAS. In a given year, we'd have 6-8K people at SGF. In the past two years at our virtual events, we've had between 25-30K participants. Yes, we all miss the ability to gather in once place and talk shop; however, we're now able to reach so many more people in a virtual format. Who know what the future holds? For now let's Explore.   For the trivia event, we'll focus on SAS Explore, but we also want to embrace the past. We'll incorporate questions about the upcoming event and will also celebrate past Global Forums, Analytics Experiences, and regional conferences. What does the acronym SUGI mean to you? Data scientists wouldn't normally or intentionally introduce bias into their models; however, the fact is that in this imperfect world, tendencies are inadvertently introduced into technology. SAS has recognized this as an issue and is taking steps on educating data scientists how to recognize and avoid biases in AI. We'll cover this topic in October's SAS Bowl.   Game Details The SAS Support Community trivia event, SAS Bowl XXIV, Ethics in Data Science is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12, at 10 AM ET. Register for the event and receive an invite to a Microsoft Teams meeting and a calendar event. We pursue that vision through trustworthy and responsible innovation." SAS takes the approach that responsible innovation encompasses asking 'should we,' as well as 'could we.' SAS is committed to working with customers, partners and academia to increase the awareness of, and necessity for, technology that is ethical, equitable and sustainable for individuals and societies.   Can you tell we take this seriously? SAS Viya does not live on an island. In fact no software system stands alone and gives you everything you need. SAS does however, fit very well into the ecosystem of the analytics technology stack. This is made easier by creating easy integration points to our software from external and open source clients. We introduce you to one of these packages SAS SWAT in December's edition of the SAS Bowl.   Game Details The SAS Support Community trivia event, SAS Bowl XXVI, The SAS SWAT Package is scheduled for Wednesday, December 14, at 10 AM ET. Register for the event and receive an invite to a Microsoft Teams meeting and a calendar event. On game day, join the Teams meeting and access the game here.   More on the SWAT package The SAS SWAT package is an interface to SAS Cloud Analytic Services (CAS) (the centerpiece of the SAS Viya framework). With this package, you can load and analyze data sets of any size on your desktop or in the cloud. Since CAS can be used on a local desktop or in a hosted cloud environment, you can analyze extremely large data sets using as much processing power as you need, while still retaining the ease-of-use of Python, R, or Lua on the client side.   Using SWAT, you can execute workflows of CAS analytic actions, then pull down the summarized data to further process on the client side in say Python, or to merge with data from other sources using familiar Pandas data structures. With the best-of-breed SAS analytics in the cloud and the use of open source packages, the SWAT package gives you access to the best of both worlds.   We could go on and on about the SWAT features, but we'll let you explore the following resources to learn more and prepare for the game. SAS Viya uses the Cloud Analytics Service (CAS) to perform tasks. The smallest unit of work for the CAS server is a CAS action. Think of CAS actions as powerful functions or methods created specifically to process data in the CAS server. We'll cover more CAS action details when we feature them in January's edition of the SAS Bowl.   Game Details The SAS Support Community trivia event, SAS Bowl XXVII, CAS Actions is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18, at 10 AM ET. Register for the event and receive an invite to a Microsoft Teams meeting and a calendar event. On game day, join the Teams meeting and access the game here.   More on CAS Actions CAS actions can load data, transform data, compute statistics, perform analytics and create output. Each action is configured by specifying a set of input parameters. Running a CAS action in the CAS server processes the action's parameters and the data and creates an action result. Actions are organized into functional groups call Action Sets.   Run CAS Actions from anywhere! You can run CAS actions directly from SAS, using an open source language of your choice, or even through REST API calls. This makes CAS actions quite effective, versatile, and mobile.   CAS actions are well documented. Below is a small sample of resources to get you started.
