This infographic covers statistics on international travel arriving in and departing from Australia. Records show that 17,443,090 travelers arrived in the country in 2023, an annual increase of more than 8 million - almost doubled compared to the previous year. With borders reopened after the 2021 pandemic - this number is increasing ever since.

I combined various visual object here to show the leading source and target countries people travel to/from as well as visualize the impact of the covid19 pandemic and related strict border rules Australia implemented very early.

You can also view the ultra-high resolution version of the graphic (resolution: 1459x3000, size: 1.5MB, format: JPG) or explore the more interactive SAS Visual Analytics SDK report (offline version of the report).

Thank you for sharing such an interesting infographic. Its well-organized design is very informative. I am new to using Visual Analytics, so I am unsure about what objects are being displayed and how they are configured just by looking at it. Could you recommend any pages or sites that would be helpful for beginners like me?

If you want to dive deeper into infographic design and storytelling - you can check out some of the related conference papers such as https://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings20/4126-2020.pdf or check out design recommendations at https://communities.sas.com/html/assets/breports/index.html. I have also written a book https://www.amazon.com.au/Insightful-Data-Visualization-SAS-Viya-ebook/dp/B08M9D1M8J which covers all aspects around best practices with examples etc. - all based on SAS Visual Analytics.

This particular graphic above - uses two geographical maps on top (one of those is a network plot on geo map), bar and time series charts - as well as box plot and parallel coordinates plot. There are no fixed rules on what visual you should use - it's just some work better than others dependent on your data and story you want to tell. I'm also using a precision container which allows me to freely position objects as well as have a background image.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks again for taking the time to provide such valuable insights and resources. It's incredibly helpful for a beginner like me!

No problem at all!! I hope we will see some of you graphics in this gallery soon!!!

Also FYI - I just added another link to the offline version of the report to description above. Similar to the screenshot - but it actually renders the actual report providing some more interactivity and things like tooltips etc.

Enjoy!

Always LOVE a Falko infographic and what fascinating data to explore. I really love the Main Reason for Travel box & whisker plot comparison and drilling into the trends over time. (Wasn't sure why 2023 was in the title?) The visual highlights the reasons for travel uptake since 2021 and shows the skewness in 2020 when borders shut.

The overall choice of visuals and your design & layout are great. Thanks for delving into this data analysis. A fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon exploring the interactive offline report to learn more. 😊
