Here's a SAS Visual Analytics report showing historic data about New York City taxi trips and related pickup and drop-off locations. Visualizations show trips made by New York City’s iconic yellow taxis as recorded and provided to the TLC between January and June 2020. Yellow taxis are traditionally hailed by signaling to a driver who is on duty and seeking a passenger (called a street hail), but now they may also be hailed using an e-hail app like Curb or Arro.
The infographic also shows the effect of the #COVID19 outbreak and dramatic decrease of trips made after the announced lockdown of the city. According to a recent report of the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC), yellow cabs operating in New York City went from 11,435 in January to a low point of 2,193 at the height of the pandemic in April 2020.
There were about 16 million trips made during that time span and data provided allows interesting analysis about what time of the day people travel, where they travel to, etc. The report uses two network plots on a geographical map to visualize the movements and regional representation of the NYC taxi zones (TLC provided custom polygons in an Esri shape file).
Enjoy!
This is great, do we have an online version of this?
Unfortunately I do not have a public server I can publish reports to - so only a snapshot of this report for now.
