The nearly 60-year-old European Song Contest is watched by an estimated 125 million viewers each year. Started in 1956, it has been held every year (with the exception of 2020) - making it the longest-running annual international televised music competition.

This SAS Visual Analytics report shows the voting results and related distribution between countries. Often criticized - voting in this contest is not always based on an artist performance and popularity - but rather politically motivated. The network visualization based on a force-directed graph layout, shows more frequent and popular point distribution between countries.

Neighboring countries or countries sharing the same language or culture (e.g. Cyprus/Greece) are likely to vote for each other more frequently and use higher points. Note that this snapshot of the report is using the top right filter selections. The interactive version of the report lets you explore other combinations and compare different voting categories or contest editions.
