       2     2014-19

       3      2014

       4

ouput needed;

OBS         DTF

1

2                D

I am getting the output I need except fourth OBS. For the fourth OBS I am getting "M"

Which modifier I need to use when the date value is blank to get the output. Please help. Thanks.

I have tested it. You can do:

if not missing(date) then

   dtf = choosec(countw(date,'-'),'m','d',' ');
