The simplest way to automatically create a series of macro variables is this:
data _null_; set sashelp.class; call symputx(cats('mac_',_n_),name); run;
You can also use a dataset variable as name of your macro variables:
data _null_; set sashelp.class; call symputx(name,weight); run;
