That is how the INPUT statement normally works when you have not added the TRUNCOVER (or the deprecated MISSSOVER) option.

 

And it is what I wanted it to do. 

 

So instead of having to read each line and check if has the string I am just letting the INPUT statement find the next occurrence of the string.
