Like operator

 

Why does this return values like... L02?

 

proc sql;
create table qatar_lookup as
select distinct academic_period, COURSE_IDENTIFICATION, course_reference_number, course_section_number, 1 as qatar_flag
from odsstu.student_course;
where course_section_number like '%Q%';
quit;

This is in the log

29 where course_section_number like '%Q%';
WARNING: This SAS global statement is not supported in PROC SQL. It has been ignored.

I have two ;

The log says it:  the where statement is ignored.

SQL cannot have standolone where statements. 

where statements have to be part of a sql clause (a select clause for example).

the cause ends with a ;
