This session demonstrates how SAS DATA step was used in a recidivism study to assess the effectiveness of a state-level defensive driving program. Using existing data from court case management systems, we will show how SAS DATA step:
- Narrowed the scope of data by identifying relevant records of proram participants from a data set of 6.5 million records.
- Reduced selection bias by using a matching algorithm to create a comparison group that closely matches program participants, resulting in over 110,000 individuals per group.
- Used multidimensional arrays in an innovative way to generate detailed recidivism reports.
