The SAS Batch Runtime (SBR) Container is a licensed, customizable, SAS Viya container that enables you to run your SAS Compute workloads on cloud-based execution services. It provides an additional deployment option for production code developed in SAS Viya and allows you to run your workloads virtually anywhere. This presentation outlines the design rationale, implementation highlights, and recommended patterns for executing SAS batch jobs in cloud-based batch execution environments. SBR empowers data scientists and data engineers to run their new or existing SAS code (datastep, macros, procs, ds2, etc.,) with minimal or no modifications, ensuring a seamless transition to cloud-based execution options when necessary, due to industry regulatory or corporate requirements. SBR provides organizations with greater scalability, operational efficiency and freedom.

What if you could run your SAS batch workloads anywhere—without being tied to your Viya environment? In this early preview, Daniel Zuniga introduces the SAS Batch Runtime, a container-based approach that lets you build, version, and execute SAS jobs across cloud platforms like AWS Batch or even on-prem systems with minimal code changes.

Through a live demo, you’ll see how a simple workflow moves from development in Viya to execution in external environments, unlocking new flexibility, scalability, and reproducibility for batch processing. But the real intrigue lies in how this decoupling changes the game—giving teams more control over where and how their workloads run.

If you’ve ever wondered how to extend SAS beyond its traditional boundaries, this is a glimpse into a powerful new direction.
