I'm sure a search on Google will turn up all manner of detailed articles on SDLC, its steps, limitations and benefits.

Look especially for any postings to forums such as TechNet or TechRepublic because these tend to have icing, chocolate sauce and nuts added by a number of contributors in their feedback and comments areas.
