Positive Impact Analyzer for Banking

Providing the finance sector support in determining its impact and potential role in contributing to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Agreement on Climate Change agreed by governments around the world in 2015.

In September 2019 the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) have been launched by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) with more than 130 banks, i.e. one third of the global banking sector (https://www.unepfi.org/). The framework also provides a complex tool for performing a Portfolio Impact Analysis and to identify the bank’s most significant impact areas based on the Impact Radar (https://www.unepfi.org/publications/positive-impact-publications/the-impact-radar/).

The goal of our use case was to design a Positive Impact Analyzer for Banking, based on the UNEP Positive Impact Analysis Tool, using Python model to calculate the bank portfolio SDG index score and a web based graphical user interface that can be run from SAS VA including a dashboard to visualize and investigate the current, historical, and future level of sustainability performance.

We are convinced that we can make a difference for the banking industry, to monitor and improve the performance with respect to the Principles of Responsible Banking and therefore be able to increase the overall portfolio sustainability impact for a more sustainable world.

We were thrilled to be part of the SAS Hackathon 2021, really loved working on our use case, and we hope you'll enjoy watching the video!

Best regards,
