We just recently upgraded to EG 8.1. In our previous version, we could go to Tools>Options>Data>General and uncheck the box for autoload data when added to project. I do not see this option now. I could be overlooking it, but I've checked multiple times with no luck.
Does anyone know if it is still available? With some of our data sets, it could almost render using EG useless because the datasets are so large.
Thank you.
It is and that works. I was thinking that referred to non-SAS data. Thanks!
For clarification… there are two similarly named options that have been removed...
The Automatically open data when added to the project option was removed in 8.1.
The Automatically import data when added to the project option was removed in 8.2.
The reason the first was removed is because EG 8.x now gives you explicit control over when an item is opened versus added to a project (at least in the Servers pane). For example, see the following screenshot:
The bold context menu item is the current default (what occurs if you double-click), but you can select to just Open or Add to project instead to override. (Note: You can change the default to Open (instead of "Open and add to project") by unchecking the When an item is opened, automatically add to the project option (In Tools->Project and Process Flows).)
When you "add" an item from the Project pane toolbar, it is opened and added to the project. When you "add" an item from the Process Flow toolbar, the item is added to the flow, but not opened. It could be a little more explicit in these areas whether opening, adding, or opening and adding.
So, currently, to add data to a project without opening it, either right-click on the data in the Servers pane and select Add to project or add it from the Process Flow toolbar button (plus icon).
Similarly, the Automatically import data when added to the project option was removed in favor of letting users explicitly decide whether and when to import.
