SAS Enterprise Session Monitor provides visibility into the performance and costs of the complex analytic workloads in all your SAS deployments. It helps with schedule optimization, performance tuning, chargeback by department, and resource sharing.

If you’re already using SAS Enterprise Session Monitor, you know that it’s great for keeping tabs on your business-critical SAS applications. You know how to use SAS Enterprise Session Monitor’s predefined visualizations and workflows for a detailed understanding of what’s going on in your SAS environment right now and in the recent past.

But if you want to broaden your use of SAS Enterprise Session Monitor to lower the costs associated with your SAS deployments, or to understand complicated performance trends, you need to see more. You need to see patterns in infrastructure usage and user trends, and you need to be able to perform job variance analysis. Having these longer-term views enables you to right-size your environment and plan for future hardware upgrades or changes to your cloud deployments.

You need to see near-real-time data visualizations like these:

The SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Maintenance Utility includes a set of sample SAS Visual Analytics reports that provide a starting point for exploring SAS Enterprise Session Monitor data and building your own reports.

If you’re already using the Maintenance Utility, you might need to download and install a newer version.

The sample reports have been designed and built using SAS Viya. As a result, they can be viewed only with a SAS Viya environment. An on-demand version of the SAS Viya platform is now available in Microsoft Azure, and it fulfills the requirements to use SAS Enterprise Session Monitor data in SAS Visual Analytics reports. SAS Viya on Microsoft Azure is deployed as a managed application in Azure with a usage-based subscription that provides you with access SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Visual Statistics, and more. In the Azure Marketplace, the SAS Viya on Microsoft Azure app is listed as SAS Viya (Pay-As-You-Go).

If you already have access to an instance of SAS Viya with SAS Visual Analytics, you’re all set. Follow the instructions in the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Administrator’s Guide to configure the reports.

Otherwise, the easiest way to get started with SAS Viya on Microsoft Azure is to follow the Quick Start guide. This guide describes the procedure for deploying an environment in detail.

Once you have SAS Viya on Microsoft Azure deployed, follow the instructions in the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Administrator’s Guide to use the Maintenance Utility to load the data and configure the reports.

Here’s an example of the types of reports that you can generate:
