Saving Searches in SAS Visual Investigator

Saved searches enable SAS Visual Investigator users to save frequently executed searches, or to save complex searches using the advanced search functionality. This enables investigators to re-run a search at a later date. In this post, I’ll review how to create and run a saved search in SAS Anti-Money Laundering, which is a solution built on top of SAS Visual Investigator.

Let’s say that I frequently search what customers are designated as PEPs, or politically exposed persons. PEPs, or individuals associated with PEPs, may represent a higher risk than other customers at a bank because they have access to a large amount of funds. These funds may be the proceeds of illicit activity. Instead of creating a query for PEPs from scratch every time, I can create it once and add it to my Saved searches list. Then, I can easily access and run this search.

Let’s take a look.

On the menu bar, I click Search. For Type, I select Saved searches. Then, I click Add. Selecting Group enables me to group similar searches. I currently don’t have any saved searches created, so for now, I’ll select Search.

Select any image to see a larger version.
Mobile users: To view the images, select the "Full" version at the bottom of the page.

For Name, I enter PEP. For Search query, I select the Advanced search icon.

Again, I want to search for PEPs in the system, so for Object Type, I select Customer. For Field, I hover over Field, and select Politically Exposed Person. I leave the Operator as Equals. For Value, I select Yes. This query searches for all customers that are marked as a politically exposed person.

I click OK. I’ll leave the Search result view as Detail view and select Add of favorites. Favorite searches are displayed beneath the search field on the Search page. On the toolbar, I click Save.

Now that I’ve created and saved my search. Let’s run it. I close out of my PEP search.

Notice that on the Search page, I see my PEP search marked as a favorite.

If I click the PEP link, the system automatically runs this search. Notice that I have 124 results. This means that 124 customers are designated as politically exposed persons.

If I go back to the Search page and change the type to Standard search, notice that this search is listed under my Favorite searches
