Save and Share Organization-Defined Searches

Did your organization give you a standard, preset search? That’s great! Except you have a need to slightly modify the search. An Organization Defined search itself cannot be edited, but it can be copied, modified, and then saved to my personal searches in the My Searches section of my Home page. In this post, you will learn how SAS Law Enforcement Intelligence users can use the Organization-Defined Searches as a starting point for creating customized searches tailored to their specific needs.

We learned in a previous post about My Searches that as a user you can create and save frequently used searches and save them for easy access to your personalized Home page. Now, let’s look at the organization-defined search configured in this post for intelligence users like Malcolm to search and return all Crime Reports where the Offense Category is Auto Crimes, and the city is Paisley.

While this search helps Malcolm, he also wants to monitor the auto crime scene for a specific zip code within the city of Paisley. Here are the initial search parameters the administrator shared within the organization defined search with intelreporters.

Mobile users: To view the images, select the "Full" version at the bottom of the page.

I run the search from the Organization Defined Searches section of my Home page.

The results open on the Search page, in Map view. We can see that the query used for the search is displayed in the search field. To modify the search, I click on the advanced search icon.

I simply change the parameters of the search by changing the value City to Postcode/Zip, and the value Paisley to the specific zip code PA1 3EA.

From that window, clicking Search brought me back to the search results with the new result displayed.

To save this search for future use, I go to the Home page and navigate to the My Searches menu.

From here I use the Save Last Query option to give my report a new title. There is also an option to share my new search with other intelreporters, which are in the same user group as me.

When I save and return to the Home page, I see my newly modified search saved to the My Searches section. The original copy of the Organization Defined Search still shows in my Organization Defined Searches section.

Using the shared organization defined search as a starting point helped Malcolm to quickly and easily create a customized search tailored to his specific needs.
