How to create data for newest SAS Programming 1 course (with top folder EPG1V2)

When you begin Programming 1, instructions on the Course Overview and Data Setup page correspond with your method of accessing SAS. The videos below walk you through each method.

We have also introduced a new method for using SAS Studio. We've put a Virtual Lab feature in Programming 1 and Programming 2 which allows you to use a Virtual Lab with the data already created for the course. You'll find a new video below that shows how you use SAS Studio in the Virtual Lab. If you are planning to work on multiple SAS classes, then you might want to consider using SAS OnDemand for Academics so that you can create a separate folder for each class.

The instructions topic begins with an explanation of the free methods for using SAS. We have retired SAS University Edition effective August 2, 2021, so in the course overview section you will only find instructions for the free SAS OnDemand for Academics method of using SAS. This method will require that you upload a program to the server and run the program to create the class data on the SAS OnDemand for Academics server.

Note: These instructions are NOT interchangeable. You cannot use the SAS OnDemand instructions for local SAS on Windows or vice-versa. You need to pick the correct instructions for how you are using SAS.

hello Cynthia,Capture1.GIF

I am trying to set up a library in SAS Viya in Sas Studio for progamming essentials1, the PG1 library. From searching I believe that my SAS Viya is on a remote server. How to give SAs the right file path. At this moment I am getting an error message that PG1 does not exist. Pls see the image below. could you advise? regards Karolina

Hi:

I would recommend that you right click on the data subfolder under the EPG1V2 class folder. I see that the EPG1V2 folder is under several other folders, including a SAS Content.folder. So I am surprised that I don't see SAS Content in your path. If you right click on the data subfolder and choose Properties, you should see the Location field in the Properties window should have the full and correct path for you to use. Have you checked the Properties as I describe? I believe we also show that method in several of the class videos. It should not matter whether your SAS session is on a local or remote server. Using the Location field in the Properties window is how we recommend that students find the correct path to use.

Cynthia

thank you for your answer. I was trying to work in SAS Studio V in Sas Viya. It does not work, also when I add Sas content to the path. I will try to work in SAS Studio.

Hi:

We did not write this version of the Programming 1 class to run in SAS Viya. We tested with SAS Studio 3.8 and SAS 9.4 M6 and 9.4 M7. If you have access to SAS Studio through a local install of SAS or through SAS OnDemand for Academics, that might be a better approach.

Cynthia
