In a previous post I introduced the key concepts of SAS Intelligent Planning showing how they relate to a plan. The purpose of this post is to show how a planner can customize their plan by modifying where a dimension is displayed on the plan. As a reminder, a dimension is a way to organize your data, so it is easier to work with. There are four dimensions displayed in the following plan, Measure, Analysis, Product, and Calendar.
Select any image to see a larger version.
Mobile users: To view the images, select the "Full" version at the bottom of the page.
Additionally, this plan has two slicers: Currency and LOCATION.
This example shows the default plan that the planning administrator made. However, each planner could have a different preference on how they prefer to work with the plan. For example, some planners might prefer to have the measure and analysis dimensions as a column rather than a row, and the product and time dimensions as a row. This can be accomplished by selecting the Layout button.
This brings up the Table Layout page. Here planners can change where the dimensions appear on the plan. The current example has Product and CALENDAR as Columns, RETAIL and Analysis as Rows, and Currency and LOCATION as Slicers.
This can be modified by selecting the desired dimension and removing it from a Column, Row or Slicer and moving it to a different one. For example, I could switch the dimensions that appear on the Columns and Rows.
This would change the plan to look like the following.
It is important to note that the order the dimensions appear in the Table Layout is the order that they will appear in the plan. For example, since Product was before Calendar it is displayed to the left of calendar in this modified plan. It is also important to note that the planning administrator can modify the plan settings which control whether the planner can change the dimensions that appear in the plan.
Future posts will dive into more detail on how to modify the appearance of the plan. For more information see the Essentials of SAS Intelligent Planning course which is part of the SAS Internet of Things Learning Subscription.
