SAS Visual Analytics is most often viewed on a computer.  But when users want to take reports with them, the SAS Mobile BI App is the fast and free way to view these same interactive reports on a mobile device.  This app has been around for many years and has given users the freedom and flexibility to view SAS Visual Analytics reports on the go.

Now some users want to take this to the next level and personalize their mobile experience, or even create a customized mobile app with SAS Visual Analytics content.  You asked, and SAS responded!

In a recent SAS Communities article, SAS' Robby Powell highlighted the availability of the SAS Mobile SDKs and how these can enhance your mobile experience in a number of ways.  In summary, the various approaches you can take are:

  • Personalize – “brand” your SAS Mobile BI App
  • Pre-configure – new users to the SAS Mobile BI App automatically access reports
  • Customize – integrate SAS Visual Analytics into a custom built mobile app
  • Manage – integrate mobile apps with your MDM service

Note - The SAS SDK for iOS is available now as a free download from developer.sas.com.  The SAS SDK for Android will be available soon.

GatherIQ image.pngGatherIQ is a great example

Also mentioned in Robby's article was GatherIQ, a crowdsourcing app from SAS with the sole purpose of using #data4good.  This is a great example of a mobile app that combines customized content with SAS Visual Analytics reports (see bullet 3 above), developed with SAS Mobile SDKs.

GatherIQ is an app that takes data about some of the most pressing global issues and makes them personally relevant to people through interactive visualizations. The app promotes a more data-driven culture and encourages you to start discussions based on that data.

To really understand how it works, I encourage you to spend just a few minutes and check out GatherIQ for yourself.  Download the app to your mobile device.  See how the SAS Mobile SDK helps bring SAS Visual Analytics content into a custom mobile application.  Along the way, you might just find a project that inspires you - in which case please share insights about it immediately! Here's how:

  1. Find a topic that interests you and start exploring.  The interactive SAS Visual Analytics reports allow you to examine areas of interest.
  2. Use the social sharing function to easily raise awareness within your network.
  3. Come back to the app again and again, as we plan to continually add more #data4good projects.

Putting it all together

While navigating through GatherIQ, you can spot SAS Visual Analytics reports and see the familiar interactivity and ease of use in full display.  All report objects, interactions, filtering, drilling, etc. are created within SAS Visual Analytics and any content that can be saved in a report is supported on mobile.

Perhaps the GatherIQ example of a custom mobile application has sparked your curiosity and interest.  The SAS Mobile SDKs are what make this possible.  They are available as a free download and allow you to make connections, download and view SAS Visual Analytics reports - opening up a new set of possibilities for mobile collaboration.

Go to GatherIQ and get inspired: explore some of the most pressing issues of the day, use #data4good, and investigate the SAS Mobile SDKs.

Comments

for me why it was working smooth on my android phone when it was running on android version 6.0.1 however as I have updated to android version 7.1.1 whenever now I am opening the app it only loads a blank screen on the start up and crashes after a while automatically. How do I fix it?

I'll take a look at it and get back to you.  I will need to update to the current version first.

I just tried this on my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, which is using Android version 7.0 and was able to open the reports.  When I tried to update the phone it says my current software is up to date, so I was unable to update to 7.1.1.  Let me try to help trouble shoot for you.  What phone are you using with your Android 7.1.1?  Which report were you trying to open?

Reply with a a private message so we can take this troubleshooting off the main page.

Thanks

Steve
