Looking for data? Need an easily accessible dataset for a class or project? We have you covered. SAS Viya for Learners, which is available for free to students and educators, has an extensive data repository with almost 300 datasets across 8 industries.
Follow these steps to access the data repository and use its datasets in SAS Visual Analytics or any other Viya application.
1. Log into the SAS Viya for Learners launch page using your SAS Profile*.
*The email address referenced in your SAS profile must be from an academic institution. If you have not already registered for SAS Viya for Learners, you can do so here.
Chrome is the preferred web browser for SAS Viya for Learners, followed by Firefox and Safari.
2. Access the Data Repository from the Viya for Learners launch page. Select Access Now.
3. The data repository contains almost 300 datasets which can be overwhelming. There is a search bar to help narrow the list. There are advanced search options as well. Here I have sorted the results by Industry Alignment.
4. Select Advanced Search. This gives you additional search options. Select Government. Select Apply filter.
51 datasets are aligned to the Government industry. Many have multiple alignments. This is expected. We are looking for the NYC_STREET_TREE_CENSUS_2015 dataset.
5. Select the dataset name for additional information.
6. Select Click to download document to download a Word document with additional information on the dataset.
To use the data set in SAS Visual Analytics (or any other Viya application), note the dataset name and the VFL Folder. (Name: NYC_STREET_TREE_CENSUS_2015, VFL Folder: ACADEMIC)
7. Return to the Viya for Learners page by selecting SAS Viya for Learners from the path in the Virtual Learning Environment.
8. Launch Viya for Learners.
9. Select the applications icon from the SAS Drive - Share and Collaborate page.
10. Select Explore and Visualize (Visual Analytics) from the applications menu.
11. Select Start with Data.
12. Within the Choose Data window, start typing in the name of the data set you want to use, generally you will not need to type the entire name -NYC_STREET_TREE_CENSUS_2015.
(see note at the end if the data source does not appear in the list)
13. Select the data source, NYC_STREET_TREE_CENSUS_2015. Select OK.
The data source is now loaded into SAS Visual Analytics.

Select OK when the data is done uploading.

I did not realize there was such a great resource available for Viya For Learners. I'll be sure to point it out to my students. Thanks!

Hi andy,
It seems that the SAS Viya for Learners Data Repository is not accessible now after launching SAS Viya 4 . How can I get it now or its short link.
Regards

There is a link to the repository under “Additional Information”.
FYI, the dataset list and folder names were inherited from the previous version. Some listed folder names are incorrect, and some datasets are no longer available. The updates are currently being made.
