Importing AI Assets into SAS AI Navigator

Bring your existing use cases, models, and agents into SAS® AI Navigator in bulk

Overview

SAS AI Navigator's value comes from having a complete picture of every AI use case, model, and agent in use across your organization. If your organization already has models, agents, or use cases running in production, that inventory doesn't do much good sitting outside SAS AI Navigator. This article walks through how to import your existing assets into SAS AI Navigator.

Why import instead of creating assets manually

SAS AI Navigator lets you create Use Cases, Models, and Agents one at a time through the Add Asset wizard. That works well for new assets, but most organizations starting with SAS AI Navigator already have an established portfolio of AI work. Re-entering all of that by hand isn't realistic.

To make onboarding practical, SAS AI Navigator supports importing existing assets in bulk via CSV or JSON. This lets you populate your inventory quickly so you can start governing the assets you already have, rather than starting from a blank slate.

Practice file

Want to follow along without using your own data? Download AIN_Model_Import_Sample_TEST.csv, attached to this article, and use it in place of your own file in the steps below. It contains five sample Model records you can safely import and delete once you're done practicing.

From the Home Page of SAS AI Navigator, select Add Asset to open the wizard. The wizard walks you through five steps: Select Method, Select Asset Type, Upload Data, Map Data Fields, and Review and Finish.

1

Select Method

Select Import one or more assets.

2

Select Asset Type

select asset typeselect asset type

Choose the type of asset you're importing: Use Case, Model, or Agent. You can only import one asset type per file, so if you have both Models and Agents to bring in, you'll run the import twice. For the purposes of this tutorial, select Model.

3

Upload Data

download CSV templatedownload CSV template

Drag and drop a CSV or JSON file, or select one manually. If you don't already have a file formatted for SAS AI Navigator, select Download spreadsheet template to get a template showing exactly which fields are available for that asset type.

Populate the template with one row per asset. You're not required to use the exact column names from the template. If your source file uses different column names, you'll map them to SAS AI Navigator's fields in the next step.

Once you upload your file, an Import Summary shows how many rows were read and flags any immediate issues (Valid vs. Alerts) before you move on.

4

Map Data Fields

Match each SAS AI Navigator field to a column in your source file. Fields marked as required (with a checkmark) must be mapped before you can continue. If you're not sure whether a column contains the values you expect, open its dropdown and select Explore source data and select... to see the distinct values coming in from your file, so you can confirm you're mapping the right column.

Two fields here are specific to SAS AI Navigator and can't come from your source file. Even if your file happens to have its own owner or permission-related columns, those can't be mapped in. Permission Groups and Asset Owner must be selected directly, since they depend on configuration that only exists inside SAS AI Navigator:

  • Permission Groups: select which permission group(s) the imported assets should belong to.
  • Asset Owner: select a single default Asset Owner for all assets in the file. This is required at this step.

Tip: Once your fields are mapped, you can save the mapping using the Asset schema templates option in the top right. Saved templates can be reused by others in your organization importing the same kind of file, so this mapping work only has to happen once per source format.

5

Review and Finish

review and finishreview and finish

Before finishing, review every row and the values that will be applied. This is also where you can override the default Asset Owner, on a per-row basis, if different assets in the file need different owners. Other changes can be made to the assets this way as well.

Naming conflicts

If any asset name appears more than once in your file, or matches the name of an asset that already exists in SAS AI Navigator, it will surface as an error here. The row is highlighted and flagged, since SAS AI Navigator only allows one asset per name. The Finish button stays disabled until every error is resolved, so you can’t complete an import with unresolved naming conflicts.

Once all rows are valid, select Finish. Your assets will be created and available for use in SAS AI Navigator.
