Hi All,
I need some help with proc transpose:

Have   Want
word meaning   word meaning1 meaning2 meaning3 meaning4
enthusiasm  strong excitement of feeling    enthusiasm  strong excitement of feeling  something inspiring fervor belief in special revelations of the Holy Spirit religious fanaticism
enthusiasm  something inspiring fervor   pessimism the doctrine that reality is essentially evil the doctrine that evil overbalances happiness in life    
enthusiasm  belief in special revelations of the Holy Spirit   set to cause to sit : place in or on a seat to place (oneself) in position to start running in a race to cause to assume a specified condition, relation, or occupation  
enthusiasm  religious fanaticism            
pessimism the doctrine that reality is essentially evil            
pessimism the doctrine that evil overbalances happiness in life            
set to cause to sit : place in or on a seat            
set to place (oneself) in position to start running in a race            
set to cause to assume a specified condition, relation, or occupation            

 

the word 'set' has nearly 100 meanings. Is it possible to transpose 'have' to get 'want'.

This should be a standard transpose.  Assuming that your data set is sorted by WORD:

 

proc transpose data=have out=want (drop=_name_) prefix=meaning;

var meaning;

by word;

run;
