Watch this Ask the Expert session to learn the necessary steps to move your SAS 9 content to SAS Viya.
You will learn:
The questions from the Q&A segment held at the end of the webinar are listed below and the slides from the webinar are attached.
Q&A
And content refers to what type of files/data?
Content refers to the different content you will want to move to Viya, such as SAS data, reports, EG projects, code, metadata and much more.
Do .egp user prompts migrate? If not, can prompts be reated in Viya?
Yes, the prompts can be migrated.
Does data need to be UTF-8 or is WLATIN1 also possible?
UTF-8 is the default, but I believe you have other options here is documentation https://go.documentation.sas.com/doc/en/workbenchcdc/v_001/vwbnlsref/p0ega4mblktma0n1th1jkh60p1ea.ht...
Only those with admin privilege is able to run this, correct?
Yes, these are administration tasks, so administrative privileges are needed.
You mentioned expensive. What's the average cost to move from 9.4 to Viya in terms of % for budget purposes, i.e. 10% more, 20% more, etc.?
Sorry, I'm a technical engineer, I'm not sure what the cost would be based on your needs. If you would like someone from SAS to contact you, they can give you a proposal. Please respond to the email address and we can have someone contact you
Is there a plan for end-of-life date for SAS 9.x server?
Not any time soon, SAS 9.4 will be around for a long time.
What is the difference between SAS 9.4 Analytics Pro and Analytics Pro on Viya? It looks like they contain the same packages (e.g.: stat, graph). Is it just deployment models or is there more to it?
Yes, you are correct. They are very similar packages; you would have a compute environment in Viya with the Analytics Pro environment modules that will allow for coding.
Should PREPARE include training for current users for Viya coding and for admin for Viya administration?
Yes, there will need to be training in Viya admin tools and programming tools, such as SAS Studio to start working in Viya. SAS offers many options for Knowledge Transfer sessions, Education Training for Admins and users to get up to speed with Viya. You can contact your Customer Success Representative for more information.
What is the impact to SAS Studio users?
Enterprise Guide projects, SAS DI studio Jobs will be converted to Studio Flows as well as other code. SAS Studio will be continued to be a main tool for coding in Viya 4.
Is this webinar mainly for individual SAS users or for SAS administrators?
This training is mainly for Administrators.
We create xlsx, txt, and pdf reports using compute - do we have to make a lib to point to those, or just put them in a folder path to email/transfer out to clients?
Yes, you can move content such as xlsx, txt etc. to Viya folders. There are import options in the folders to do this. You also have ability to email content.
If you are not currently using Metadata managed deployment in 9.4, is it better to migrate that direction first, then migrate to Viya 4? Or is it better to jump straight to Viya 4 and skip the managed 9.4 deployment?
Managing Metadata in Viya is much different than in SAS 9.4, so it would still be a learning curve. I would say you can go straight to Viya and take the administration training.
Do you have a suggested list of steps that end users should take before/during/after migration?
Once you have run the Content Assessment, the admins can identify the user content to move to Viya. If the content is mapped correctly in Viya, users can test run the content to ensure the mapping is correct and jobs can run in Viya.
How to migrate SAS EM models to SAS Viya 4?
Content Assessment can help convert code from EM to run in Viya here is a link to documentation https://go.documentation.sas.com/doc/en/sasadmincdc/v_056/contentassessment/p050qcbceh055cn1npk0u3px...
