Q&A
Do we have the dashboard page in Viya 4 similar to Viya 3.5?
In SAS Viya 3.5. you have the logging and monitoring graphics and tools embedded in the Environment Manager. Right now, in SAS Viya 4, these metrics and logs are separated. They have been moved to a whole new open-source project called Viya 4 Monitoring for Kubernetes. It is a robust logging and monitoring platform you can have at no cost. However, it is not embedded within SAS Environment Manager, it is a separate application.
I understand running SAS code in a session is subject to timeout settings. Are there similar timeout limits for Jobs & Flows? In other words, If I have long running code which times out interactively, does running that code as a job solve the timeout problem?
Yes, SAS session timeouts are separate from Jobs and Flows timeouts in Viya 4. This means that even if your code times out due to inactivity in an interactive session, running that same code as a Job or Flow can potentially succeed as long as the Jobs and Flows timeout limits are set appropriately. Jobs and Flows typically have configurable timeout settings that can be set when submitting the Job or Flow. These timeouts are designed to prevent long-running processes from hanging the system and are independent of the session timeout. For details on configuring Job and Flow timeouts in Viya 4, consult the SAS Viya documentation.
Can you show the User Activity Report?
To show the User Activity Report we use SAS Viya Visual Analytics, where we follow the route to locate the User Activity Report: SAS Content > Products > SAS Environment Manager > Dashboard Items. The administrator will find this, mind you, not a regular user. If we double-click it, we can see the report already uses the system audit table data, already loaded into memory.
This demo is based on Viya 4?
Yes, it is.
How do you setup and access programs in a specified path in the Linux server from SAS Studio for an Admin-user in Viya 3.5?
For Viya 3.5 you can set up the allowed Path for CAS in the same way as in Viya 4.
Since several years I have a properly functional batchjob running every 10 minutes, owned by my ADM-user. Now I try to login in with this user and intend to use SAS Studio to maintain the programs contained in the batchjob (instead of VIM-editor etc. in the LINUX-environment...). But I get:
error while starting SAS Studio
The computer server session is in a failed state.
ERROR: User does not have appropriate authorization level for library WORK.
ERROR: (SASXKINI): PHASE 3 KERNEL INITIALIZATION FAILED.
ERROR: Unabel to initialize the SAS kernel."
