Watch this Ask the Expert session to learn how to best leverage the powerful search capabilities of SAS Visual Investigator.

Watch the Webinar

You will learn about the following search capabilities of SAS Visual Investigator:

  • Text search using wild cards, operators and modifiers.
  • Faceted search based on object attributes.
  • Advanced search to build complex search queries.

The questions from the Q&A segment held at the end of the webinar are listed below and the slides from the webinar are attached.

Q&A

In the advanced search part of the webinar, you talked about synonym search. How do synonyms get defined?

We don’t use a particular dictionary for synonyms. Instead, synonyms are defined by your administrator, then uploaded into SAS Visual Investigator as a text file. This approach not only allows your administrator to define their own synonyms, it also gives them the option to go beyond synonyms.

For example, if you want to find all the theft cases, searching for the word “steal” will not bring back results containing the word “stolen”. In this situation, your administrator can define all the different tenses of the verb “steal” as synonyms to ensure a wider coverage.

Is it case sensitive while doing name text search?

Searches in SAS Visual Investigator are not case sensitive.

Regarding facet search, can I customize and save a set of filters for future use?

The filter facets are defined by your administrator. They are essentially subcategorizations of a given object type. If you have specific filters that you use frequently, your administrator can also build a custom filter for it. As demonstrated in the webinar, your administrator can create a custom filter to capture large value claims by comparing the values of the claims against a pre-defined threshold.

Can you force the search to be case sensitive?

Yes, you can. If you enclose the search phrase in double quotation marks, you are essentially searching for an exact match, which is case sensitive.

Can admins configure which fields are indexed or searchable?

Yes, absolutely. Administrators can fully configure which fields are indexed and searchable, as well as which fields are available for phonetic and synonym search. If, in your environment, you do not see options for phonetic and synonym search, it is because no data fields have been enabled for those search types.
