Best Metric for forecasting

Would like to hear the pros can cons to the different types of metrics to use in forecasting. For example:

  • Taking daily or weekly trends
  • Weekday, complete week or specific day (Monday)
  • Only Prime shift, specific hours
  • Mean, Max, 90th percentile,,etc

Several years ago I developed this image to help describe to a customer what was gained or lost by the different types of metrics. In most cases I lean towards the 95th percentile for data that has very short durations (5 minutes)
