Hi All, I have to subset a large data set with multiple to parent to child item combination. Of which I have to only subset the one which should belong to the first combination of the variables only. Ex. One parent_item and multiple child_items and I just want to dynamically select the first of every combination. I TRIED SORT AND FIRST.VARIABLE AND LAST.VARIABLE BUT IN ALL THOSE CASES THE FIRST COMBINATION APPEARING INORIGINAL DATA SET MAY CHANGE BECAUSE OF SORTING. As a quick way round. I created a dummy row at the top and read the data first in wide format. Now all my variable are read in the desired format. Just before transposing I am deleting _n_=1 and then you are good to go and have long dataset. I think that was the problem with how the data is being read and not the transpose, as it displayed according to its innate & correct behaviour. Thanks. Harshad M.

Hello Experts, I am trying to transpose a simple yet large dataset where for all the VAR- columns only last few ROWS are filled with the values. i.e. Ex. my dataset has 10 variables and 500 rows. Out of 10 variables few I want to transpose which is ok, but for all such VAR my data starts from say row number 400. So my doubt is that the transpose procedure is scanning first few rows for the data but it does not find anything and hence does not transpose them. And shows this in log: NOTE: No variables to transpose. Any suggestions on how to override this default behaviour. And make sas scan all rows to search for available data just as sacntext in porc import. Thanks. Harshad M.

Hello Jagdishkatam, As you mentioned I tried options validvarname=yes; but it is still omiting that particular variable. Attached is the screenshot of the log before and after above option is used. Thanks. Harshad M.

Dear Experts, I was trying to import an excel sheet using import wizard and it was not working correctly. It was omiting one specific column out of 22 columns which has the name "Type", I didn't have any idea of how it was happening so I tried differents things as changing the position of the column in excel sheet, changing its name to something other than "type", restarting the session, but even after doing all of these things wizard omitted the same column evrytime. But when I used Proc Import, it worked like charm. Is it any kind of bug that SAS needs to look at? Here is the log message for both methods.

if we also want to have category y2axis then I would add a line your code proc sgplot data=sample; by category; series x=date y=value / group=element; series x=date y=CAT_value/group=Category; /*here CAT_value is a variable having the value variable aggregated to the category level so as to be able to plot category*/ run; Can also be found at : Thanks. Bang on...!!! This is what I wanted. This code generates only one graph containing both categories, so I made a change by adding a BY group (Cat). What is the purpose of creating a composite index in first step? Thanks. Harshad M.

Hello Experts, how do we create a plot using the set of data like below: Category element value date cat1 a 20 Jan-10 cat1 a 30 Feb-10 cat1 a 40 Mar-10 cat1 a 25 Apr-10 cat1 b 10 Jan-10 cat1 b 15 Feb-10 cat1 b 20 Mar-10 cat1 b 25 Apr-10 cat2 c 30 Jan-10 cat2 c 35 Feb-10 cat2 c 25 Mar-10 cat2 c 50 Apr-10 cat2 d 45 Jan-10 cat2 d 50 Feb-10 cat2 d 60 Mar-10 cat2 d 55 Apr-10 From above data we can see that , category "cat1" have two elements "a and b" , category "cat2" have two elements "c and d" and for all of them we have "values" and "date". Que is how do we create plot which looks like this: Motive is to see how category looks at an aggregated level along with how its elements are contributing. So above plot will be for "CAT1 and all its elements (here A and B)" and we will have same for "CAT2". That is only two output graphs. Thanks, Harshad M.

Is there any way we can do it using Proc gplot in version 9.3. Because to plot category and its constituents in same graph we need source dataset to be aggregated at category level as well as the element level so as to be able to plot them on same graph may be using plot1 plot2 statements. Also there should be only two (CAT1 and CAT2 ) output files. Apart from color, how do we plot data in above manner using basic gplot. Thanks, Harshad M. Message was edited by: Harshad Madhmshettiwar
