Hi, @LauraRK . I spoke with the manager for SAS OnDemand for Academics this morning. He said that while the interface on the left doesn't have the Git portions exposed, the procedures and functions related to Git are fully operational. I don't use those myself but you should be able to make use of them. I just tried using some of the examples from:
https://blogs.sas.com/content/sasdummy/2019/01/17/git-in-sas/
and everything looked good.
As for $HOME vs ~, I agree with my esteemed colleagues that $HOME is the way to go. The tilde will work fine in most situations but they aren't equivalent. If you want to learn more than you'd probably ever want to know, you can read this thread:

Hi, @Kurt_Bremser and @LauraRK . The permissions for a user's write access don't change when the semester ends. There must be something else going on.
I definitely endorse the use of the tilde in code. It will make it more portable to your students, Laura.

I agree, Laura, it's a big need. The operations team tells me it's on their futures list. I think it would be a great challenge for a good SAS programmer. I've seen several programs that do this, but not in the kind of robust way that would be generally usable. I'm sorry this is an obstacle for you. Best to you in your upcoming teaching.

Hi, @LauraRK . I hate to be the bearer of bad news. There isn't a facility to do this right now. I'm sorry.

Yes, @Sakshi_Maggu , the SAS University Edition virtual machine is Linux-based. Therefore, file and directory paths need to use the proper Linux syntax. You can always find the correct path by simply clicking on the folder on the left and choosing Properties. The location in the Properties can be copied and pasted into your code.

Hi, @Shaikkhadar . Errors like this occur when the Apache HTTP server cannot connect to the process on the back-end which is trying to contact. Why is the process not running? It could be for several reasons: a) If your copy of SAS University Edition is old, then the license for SAS might have expired; b) The scratch space could have filled up and therefore SAS can't start properly; c: there was some other reason for corruption.
In any of these cases, the fix is very easy: Download a new OVA file from SAS, import it into your virtualization software, and re-attach your Shared Folder. It'll work every time! 🙂

Thanks, @RobP . Given what you're saying, I'm inclined to think that it's not the same error as this thread pointed to originally. Rather, there are other reasons why it might be stuck in initializing. Are you using SAS OnDemand for Academics? If so, perhaps you can hit the "interrupt" (the X) while the page is loading. Curious to see what that would do. If you're using SAS University Edition, I would just re-import the OVA to a new VM, re-establish the Shared Folder, and go from there!
Hope this helps!

Hi, @RobP . Are you saying that SAS Studio is stuck in initializing with Firefox 66.0.2?
I just installed that version and didn't see any obvious problems. (I tried in SAS Studio for SAS University Edition and SAS OnDemand for Academics.) Can you tell me what you did to manifest the error?
Thanks!

There have been quite a few outages for SAS OnDemand for Academics lately. This is related to a known problem. There is an outage scheduled this coming weekend with the goal of applying a fix for this problem. We hope that the situation will be more settled as a result of this fix.
We apologize for your inconvenience. When you see an error such as what you experienced above, you can be assured that the operations team has been alerted.
Thanks,
Randy

Hi, @SASuser-123 and @ChrisBrooks. Indeed, VirtualBox 5.2.8 broke a command used to mount the Shared Folder. Here's a link to the bug report:

I'm sorry for your inconvenience.

Hi, @piyushas and @mcg and @Reeza. I can verify that there's a problem with VirtualBox 5.2.8 and Shared Folders. Reverting back to 5.2.4 does appear to fix the issue. Hoping that Oracle will rush out a fix for this soon!
Here's the page for downloading version 5.2.4:
