Hello, Please see the attachment on PIG relating to an example on the operator. FOREACH...GENERATE: The syntax says: "alias = FOREACH{block|nested block} .. I do not see the combination of block and nested block in the example in the attachment.. There are just 2 fields in the example : county and population. Why of these is the nested block ? Thanks. Hello, I have a question on ``Overview of SAS® In-Memory Analytics and the Code Accelerator for Hadoop`. Please see the attached print screen. I understand that the library definition AHDLSR is used to provide the connection to the LASR session. BUt I do not see why the SASIOLA engine is not used ( cannot be used ? ) to access the in- memory AHDLSR.customerorders table. What advantage is there in this approach ? Thanks. Odesh.

Hi Cynthia, Thanks for the quick reply. I will try the higher-level folder as you suggested. I think that this would be the weekend ( 3rd in the month ) when the SAS servers would be down for maintenance. So I would have to wait until next Monday to go to the other ( ds2h ) folder . Hello, I have a rather elementary but important problem. I cannot find the starter programs of the type dsh02e04 i.e. starter programs beginning with dsh. The starter programs that I am finding are those beginning with hp........ Please see the attachment. I have been able to run a number of example DS2 programs but I cannot do the exercises in Chapter 2 ( DS2 programming essentials). I did go through the data setup ( running both cre8data.bat and cre8data.sas ). I checked cloudera manager and the servers were all green ( except sqoop ) before going into SAS Studio. Thanks. Hi Cynthia, I did run the BAT file first ( Step #1c ) and the setup worked perfectly THIS time. But last time I had done the same thing and I was getting the missing file error. Hmmm. I did run the .BAT file before the .SAS file. I also did receive the long email which was VERY helpful. Thank you ( and the instructors) very much. I was able to do a number of the Hadoop/HIveQL exercises.. Regards. Odesh.

Hello, I am not sure about the meaning of schema in the context of Hadoop. The word schema has a well-defined meaning in a traditional DBMS ( Oracle, SQL Server etc. ). PLease see attachment - in this course it seems that schema leads to rigidity which is bad. My question is " How can we remove the rigidity but still preserve some form of hierarchy and control ? Is this not necessary ?" Thanks. Odesh.

Hello, I have 2 questions on DS2 User Defined Methods ( Chapter 5 ). Q 1 : The third line of the example DS2 program shows the use of the "in_out" parameter. ( Please see attachment). I am not sure exactly what the in_out parameter does. It seems to somehow facilitate the parameters Amount, Rate and Years. These parameters are assigned actual values in the method init()...so I am not sure why we need the "in-out" parameter. Q 2: Could we not have defined the variables Amount, Rate and Years as global parameters (variables) just after the data _null_ statement instead of defining them twice as local variables in the interest() and init() methods ? Hi Cynthia, In the virtual lab, I ran the .bat program in Windows Explorer and then I logged onto to SAS Studio and ran the .SAS program. There were no errors. Do I need to save the image each time when when logging out ( I did not save the image). I will go back and check the D drive of the virtual machine. If I cannot access the D drive, should I repeat all of the steps ? I will try to do this tomorrow evening. This weekend is the third weekend of July and I guess that the SAS servers will not be available. Am I correct ? Thanks. Odesh.

Hello, I am in the process of setting up the data for the BIg Data Loading course. I am assuming that I use a process similar to the first BIg Data course but instead of choosing the SASVisualAnalytics tab, I use the Hue tab. Am I correct ? I am attaching an extract from Steps 1 and 2 in the demo to provide some context. Thanks. Odesh
