How long do you need it to be? Why do you think you need to "increase foot note length"? Default length of Title and Footnote lines is based on your LINESIZE SAS system option and may vary by OS but I expect likely to be 256 characters. Since you can have 10 Footnotes defined at any given time that is about 2,560 characters. If you need more than that you probably should be using something other than footnotes. Perhaps you weren't aware of all of the Footnote, Footnote2, Footnote3 ... Footnote10 statements available?

Alternative way is sorting your data before PROC SGPLOT like: proc sort data=sreportlabels; by sex; run;

Exact length usually does not matter but the values in the Dattrmap have be considered equal by SAS. Which means if the values of the variable Eventtype have leading spaces then the value in the Dattrmap data set would have to have leading spaces and the exact number. SAS will normally ignore trailing spaces when comparing for equality. Case matters as well. If the value of the variable in the plot data set is "ABC" then the value in the Dattrmap set has to be "ABC", not "Abc" or "abc".
